Choosing Your Perfect Excursion

We offer a range of adventures designed to fit your goals, whether you are seeking a half-day of family fun or a long-range trophy hunt.

Halibut-Rockfish Combo (This is the trip you’re looking for!)

The halibut-rockfish combo trip is our recommended trip. It includes Halibut and Rockfish and if after July 1st this trip includes lingcod too. The only species not targeted on this trip is salmon. Please see our info page about salmon!

Target: Larger halibut (averaging 25–80 lbs) with the potential for a “barn door” trophy.

Full-Day Halibut Charter (Our Most Popular Adventure)

This trip is designed for those who want to maximize their time on the water. We travel 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the rich, deep-water grounds where the largest fish congregate.

Target: Larger halibut (averaging 25–80 lbs) with the consistent potential for a “barn door” trophy.

3/4-Day Halibut Charter (The Local Experience)

Ideal for families or those with a tighter schedule. We stay within the more protected waters of Kachemak Bay, keeping travel time to about an hour.

Target: High-action fishing for “good eaters” (averaging 20 lbs) and delicious Pacific Cod.

The Multi-Species Adventure

This is the ultimate Alaskan sampler. We travel to the border of the Gulf of Alaska to target Halibut, Rockfish, and Salmon in a single day.

Strategy: We use a variety of techniques—from bottom-dwelling jigs for halibut to downrigger trolling for acrobatic salmon.

An important note about our multi-species trip:

Our Multispecies Trip is the ultimate sampler for those who want to fill the freezer with diversity, targeting up to four species: Halibut, Rockfish, Salmon, and Lingcod (Lingcod after July 1st). Because we are working against a ticking clock to fit in time to target salmon, which is usually the last species targeted for the day, this trip is best for anglers who are happy with “good eaters” rather than holding out for a trophy. To ensure we have time to target salmon, we ask our multispecies guests to be less selective with their halibut; instead of releasing several fish in search of a “monster,” we aim to secure your limit efficiently so we can have time to target salmon. In the past, guests who spent too much time hunting for a single giant halibut were disappointed when time ran out for salmon—we want to make sure you get the full experience you paid for!

We bring this up because in past years many anglers booked a multi-species trip and continued to release “nice fish” in search of the elusive barn-door and then expressed disappointment upon return that they didn’t even get to target salmon. If trying for lots of different species is your goal, then this is your trip! However, if the more important goal is targeting larger halibut, the halibut-rockfish combo is the trip for you. Bear in mind, on all our halibut trips, the average size halibut is between 25-40 lbs, but that barn-door can strike on any given day. The days of putting every angler on the boat into a 100 lb halibut have been unrealistic for years – but we still do catch lots of them.

If your heart is set on a trophy or you enjoy the thrill of the hunt, our Halibut-Rockfish Trip (including Lingcod after July 1st) is the better choice. Since we “typically” (it’s still fishing folks!) secure our rockfish limits quickly, the majority of our day is dedicated to the halibut grounds. This allows us the luxury of time to be more selective, giving you the chance to pass on smaller fish while waiting for a heavier strike.
